Plant DNA extraction kits are necessary devices that are used by scientists carrying out research in many fields including agriculture, biomedical, and academic. They help to isolate the genomic DNA from plant tissues which is usually the isolated DNA needed for many things like genetic modification, gene expression analysis or even plant breeding experiments. The following steps can be used to extract a qualitative plant DNA:
1. Homogenization of Samples: Grinding machines or enzymes are used on plant material so that cell walls are shattered thereby releasing cellular contents such as DNA into suspension.
2. Lysis and protein elimination: Lysis buffers dissolve cell membranes and any other components of cells. However, when extracting DNA, they may interfere with specialized enzymes that break proteins down.
3. DNA Binding: In order to purify/extract DNA selectively, it is collected through a spin column which is silica-made.
4. Washing: Contaminants are eliminated from the bound DNA by using ethanol, or other cleaners.
5. Elution: Pure DNA is extracted from the spin column using a specific buffer, and it is then prepared further for analysis. “Choosing the Correct Plant DNA”
